Aussie of the Month
The Aussie of the Month Award is a school based award program being presented in over 440 schools across Western Australia.
Like all of our awards the Aussie of the Month award recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the community. The awards also reflect some of the values we share as Australians, a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to community participation and a real concern for the environment.
Many schools have successfully integrated the Aussie of the Month Program into their civics and citizenship curriculum, by using the award to generate discussion on community participation and involvement.
Each month a student is chosen as the Aussie of the Month and the recipient is presented with the Aussie of the Month badge and certificate at a school assembly. The certificate and badge is kept by recipients as a memento of the occasion .
The certificate features a photo and message of encouragement from
the 2014 Young Australian of the Year (WA) - Dr John van Bockxmeer.
The Australia Day Council of WA, through all of its Awards Programs, is keen to recognise those displaying the ideals of social justice, cultural diversity and acknowledging the importance that the reconciliation process plays in enabling people to feel valued and contribute more positively to society.
